CampusParty Europe took place at Tempelhoff abandon airport in Berlin between 21st and 26th of August. Me and my three friends (Karin, Kuba and John) came there at the first day to join the opening ceremony. As soon as we entered the the main CampusParty arena which is half-circe half-opened spaced, but at the same time separated by the shipping containers from the airstrips site, we were blown away by the amount of people sitting in the front of their desktop PCs (which they presumably brought far away from their homes) playing StarCraft and not willing to socialite (at least in real-life). At this point we knew what this was all about - gaming. Next day, the proper first day of the venue set the overall participation workflow for us. Waking up in the morning we were choosing what workshop or lecture we are most interested in, than lunch and after it partying. The whole festival was organised in a way that one was not abled to attend every lecture or workshop. I think this was clever move to divide event into topic stages. Lecture I was most looking forward was Generative Design by the Cedric Kiefer from Generative Gestaltung. Cedric’s lecture was compact one, but very energetic combined with dynamic visuals and music. Another great event were Arduino workshops led by the inventors of famous open-source board itself; David Cuartielles & Francisco Javier Zorzano. Despite the fact that festivals atmosphere did not conductive to productive it was a good introduction to Arduino world. We’ve seen also presentation of the projectsmade by the students of UDK Berlin and Parsons School of Design during Exhibition in the Cloud programme. For me this presentation was a confirmation as contemporary art goes in the direction of the human interaction art. Since me and my friends are not Starcraft gammers there was no sense to spend whole days at Tempelhoff. Filled with the creative energy we were looking for a different kind of amusement. As you probably can imaging Berlin has a lot to offer when it comes to nightlife. For the 5 days we were living in such way. However sleeping 4 on the floor in one single room apartment was exhaustive which resulted after. However, for me and Kuba this event was just a warm-up. Right after CampusParty we went to Belgium for OOE Workshop…
